Rubies And Boots (Country Brides & Cowboy Boots) Page 17

“Are you up to this?” Jonah asked.

Ruby turned around to find Jonah on one knee, a small open ring box in his hands. Gasping, Ruby went to Jonah and fell to her knees, her gaze holding his as tears coursed down her cheeks. “Yes. Yes. I’m up to it,” she said. Starting a life here would bring her full circle, closing the wounds left by Cooper and allowing her to bring her healing heart to this vacant, shattered land and empty house to renew its vibrancy and create joy in a place that had only held sorrow.

“It doesn’t have to be here, if you’d rather find another ranch,” Jonah whispered as he slipped the ring on her finger.

Ruby smiled up at him. “I think this is the place,” she murmured as she touched Jonah’s face. The diamond winked at her from her left hand.

Still on their knees, Ruby closed her eyes and placed her arms around Jonah’s neck as her lips met his. Her heart stilled, giving way to new emotions of tenderness and hope that overrode fear and uncertainty. As her mouth moved with his, she opened herself to his exploration, surrendering completely to his passion and her desire.

Jonah pulled away from her. “Are you sure you can make this your home?”

The wind rustled Ruby’s hair. The cold had returned, but it no longer touched her. Gently, she pulled him close; her whisper was as soft as the first snowflake of the season. “You’re my home now, my love. You’re my home.”
